Here are some photos of new pots. The cups and and a few of the jars were taken to the Bell Street Gallery on Madeline Island last weekend. The big jar and few other pots were was given to the Grand Hand Gallery. The photo of the big jar was taken at the Tangle Town Garden Tour.

North Shore Studio Tour

I’ ll be returning to the Cooter’s home studio as a guest for The Crossing Borders Studio Tour 2010. The tour takes place during the peak of fall colors along the North Shore. If you are looking for just a day trip or if you want to make a weekend of it, this tour will meet your needs. You can mix in a little hiking, studio touring, and dining at a fine local eatery. The tour takes place September 24th - October 3.

The new studio has been working well. I have been making adjustments along the way, the biggest so far has been the humidity. I have been balancing the use of the sun as well as a dehumidifier to get pots to leatherhard state. Currently I am still firing in my old studio in Lowertown, St. Paul. Which means schlepping bone dry pots. I anticipate I will have power and kilns at home this fall.

Cup and Mug Invitational, North Hampton MA

The Artisan Gallery hosted it’s 2nd annual “Cup and Mug” invitational at the end of 2009. Fifty potters

sent six pots each, I have not received any back yet, so hopefully they found new homes.

New house, New studio

Starting in May we starting looking for a house, which meant that the eventually the studio would be moving. These are some photos of the rear of the house and the my little hobbit studio door. Behind that door resides a little cement bunker that is nearing the final stages of becoming a viable studio. These pictures were taken in July prior to us living there. We moved in late November. At that time the room was a deteriating hunk a junk of crappy tables, mish mash junk, mice nests, centipedes, flaking floor. Since then I have been slowly readjusting the space. I plan to start working in there by mid February. I wish would have taken pictures when it was in it’s beginning stages, however I will post some photos of the last half of the rennoation project.

Crossing Borders Art Tour

This fall I participated in the Crossing Borders Studio Tour along the North Shore in northern Minnesota. I was to the home and studios of Dick and Debbie Cooter. Dick makes beautiful, rugged, functional, woodfired pottery. Debbie is an experienced weaver who crafts vibrant and stunning rugs, placemats, scarfs, mittens……..

I have known them for the past ten years and I have always deeply admired there work, their work ethic, and them as people. Being asked by them to participate in the sale and stay with them meant alot more than just selling pots.

Besides the sale, good food, and company a couple of the highlights of the weekends was the finishing of the kiln patio made from the previous kiln. Dick built a new kiln this past summer with the help of a couple people, especially Ann. Later, Ann brought over her first motorcycle a “Honda 90″ which Dick tinkered with to try to get it running.

Seven Months Later

Well it has been seven months since I have even looked at my website. I have had one heck of a summer, Fall, and so far winter. Between teaching, making pots at every possibility, buying a home, moving my studio three times, gutting out a basement, and snow boarding. I have lots of pictures coming of all my shenanigans during the second half of 2009 and beginning 2010, and I am gonna really try hard to keep this page updated.

Well for me this summer has mostly been managing pots in a continual wet state. The humidity has slowed down the pottery process for me. Instead I have fit in a lot more bike riding instead. Coming this fall I will be pretty busy. In September I will be participating again in the R ustic Road Pottery Sale in North Hudson, Wisconson on the 19th and 20th. the weekend of October 9th-11th the Annual Fall Art Crawl In Lowertown St. Paul at the Back Alley Gallery. The following weekend October 23-25, at the Back Alley Gallery I will be hosting my Fall studio sale. This year my guest will be Joe Singewald from Algoma, Wisconson. In Novermber during the weekend of 20-22 the Back Alley Gallery will be hosting it’s annual member fall sale. I will be posting more images and info as time draws near.
